Antibacterial Effects of Garlic (Allium sativum) Against Household Bacteria: A Comparative Study with Azithromycin by Akshith Duvvi

Grade: 11
Publish Date: Jan. 5, 2026, 5:22 p.m.
Description: This study investigates the antibacterial effects of garlic (Allium sativum) extract against household bacteria collected from contaminated surfaces such as toilet seats and door handles. The objective was to compare the effect of garlic extract at three concentrations (low, medium, and high) with a standard antibiotic, azithromycin. Agar plates were inoculated with bacterial samples, and sterile discs infused with either garlic extract or azithromycin were applied. Zones of inhibition were measured to assess antimicrobial activity. Results showed that garlic produced a concentration-dependent inhibitory effect, with larger inhibition zones at higher concentrations. However, azithromycin consistently demonstrated greater antibacterial activity than garlic. These findings suggest that while garlic exhibits measurable antimicrobial properties against diverse household bacteria, its effectiveness is lower than that of a broad-spectrum antibiotic. Garlic may thus hold potential as a natural supplementary antimicrobial agent, but it is not a substitute for conventional antibiotics

Old Monuments: Our Link to the Past.

Category: Architecture Social Sciences
Author: Naga Rishika
Grade: 9
Publish Date: Dec. 27, 2025, 10:32 a.m.
Description: Monuments are not merely structures of stone and brick; they are living witnesses of our past that preserve history, culture, science, and human achievement. They connect us to our roots by telling stories of ancient civilizations, traditions, and values that shaped who we are today. Beyond their cultural and religious significance, monuments reflect advanced knowledge of science, architecture, and engineering, proving the brilliance of earlier minds. They also play an important role in the present by supporting education, tourism, and the economy. Once destroyed, their originality and historical truth can never be restored. Preserving monuments is therefore not just about protecting old buildings, but about safeguarding our identity, knowledge, and heritage for future generations.

Is Peace Just A Word Now?

Category: Social Sciences Other
Author: Naga Rishika
Grade: 9
Publish Date: Dec. 14, 2025, 1:50 p.m.
Description: This opinion piece argues that “peace” has lost its real meaning in today’s world, using the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam terror attack as its emotional and political core. Through vivid imagery and personal stories of the victims, the article highlights how innocent civilians, sacred spaces, and long-standing hopes for harmony have been shattered by hatred and violence. It traces the attack’s wider consequences—India’s military response, the breakdown of historic treaties, and the deepening fear among border communities—while emphasizing the human cost often ignored in geopolitical debates. Ultimately, the piece questions whether peace still exists beyond rhetoric, yet cautiously suggests that despite broken trust and lingering trauma, the possibility of peace should not be abandoned entirely.
